On the weekend i got a copy of HAIR METAL which is one of the best books EVER...the subject is all in the title, and one of the best parts was it exposing me to my new favourite band NITRO...why? the singer who's trick was to break wine glasses on stage with his voice? no no no...was it their HUGE hair? no no no...was it because they ARE SPINAL TAP? no no no...its because of the FOUR HEADED GUITAR....fuck zines LETS ROCK!

ES PO(W!)

Like certain LPs with music, there are certain life changing influences that have shaped me and my taste in art, and one of the biggest has to be the Street Market exhibition with Twist Reas and Espo. Seeing pictures of his latest powerhouse show for Deitch has made me all crazy with excitment, taking me back a little like when i first saw the streetmarket show...also, apart from Barry McGees installations and certain Banksy solo shows has anyone else raised the bar in installation stakes and widing the scope of graf/street based art??? As in not just doing a dope gallery show but to really fucking up the ante to epic division?

Pics here at Guillotine

I got the Crystal Vision...

Im always pysched to meet new artists who do AWESOME stuff, and even more when a) they are working to make London matter again b) put out loads of great great zines regularly and c) they're all really cool people who like a drink...so i was super SUPER pysched to meet the CRYSTAL VISION collective at the Jaguar Shoes fair the other week...i tried writing this post many times but i kept sounding kiss arsey, so to keep it brief (and non kiss arsey), these guys are gonna be huge in the future, and for good reason - they make fantastic work!!!!
To the Crystal Vision crew, if your reading i salute you!

GET YOUR ASS TO PHOTOGRAPHERS GALLERY LONDON!

The photgraphers gallery is always a must see when im in central London and at the moment both of their galleries have interesting shit going on...my favourite was the Antoine D'Agata show...really awesome, your gotta GOTTA see if it if your a fan of Larry Clark, Chris Cunningham, Boogie or Christopher Doyle (cinematographer for Wong Kar Wei)...D'Agata has a huge selection of his photos on display, all taken at night, and they really do capture his life in the seedy underworld of semen stained beds and broken souls in lonely bars...his work really made me feel dizzy and dirty, but i thought it was fantastic... some of his works using blurring of the camera makes his subjects look like aphex twins cousins...it was really good...it was all kinda like those Vice photo issues but done before vice was in nappies, and better...the other show is exploring the paranormal...AWESOME! the work is very hit and miss but worth seeing nevertheless...hilarious ectoplasm in victorian seances and cool ara photos...i was glad i caught it.
So if your in central London, check out the photographers gallery Good shit going down...

Zevs drips

Saw these over at Wooster, and really like them...true they have KRinked feel, but i gotta admit i do like them a lot - especially the Chanel one...i think these are also proof that if you are going to produce work gunning at big business, then you still can do it well and not be cliched or stale...again Zevs brings the goods (for me)

Chimp zepplin...

Its not everyday your good friend gets asked to do the ad for your favourite band, and when that happens to be one of the worlds greatest rock group EVER i have to blog that shit....so, as youve probably heard, chimp recently did for his daytime job the ad for the new zepplin comp brought out for the reunion (no ticket - boo hoo!)...click here for the promo clip
PS if your confused that its not his usual style (if he has one), its that he had to work with the cover art by shepard fairey, NOT him biting his style...
